Car accidents involving children in Singapore
REPORTED CAR ACCIDENTS IN SINGAPORE THAT INVOLVED CHILDREN
Life in Singapore is comfortable and safe - we rarely hear of car accidents ever happening because it is a lot less dangerous driving on our roads than it is in numerous other countries. While all this is great, it's admittedly made us a bit complacent.
We operate under the myth of the perceived low risk of car accidents - thus undervaluing car seats. In stark contrast of this perceived low risk is the shocking fact that only 6% of children in Singapore are placed in proper child restraints. That leaves a staggering 94% of children travelling in arms, on laps and in some cases, completely unbuckled in the front seat. It often happens that the media doesn't cover traffic accidents that involve child occupants. This only perpetuates the idea that the risks are near nonexistent. Of course, this is far from the truth.
The archive below is of the few car accidents over the years that were reported to have involved children in Singapore.
